Triggered by the mail
Rene's ex-husband is in prison. For crimes against children. More specifically, against her children.
Since moving in to our new home about 3 months ago, we've received several pieces of mail addressed to him.
He's never lived here. They were not married when we were. It is not a good feeling when I'm going out to the mailbox to retrieve a package I'm excited for, only to see a letter address to him waiting for me.
What gets the adrenaline pumping even more is calling these places and telling them I don't want their mail, which I'm sure they hear all the time. Then I explain why and they begin to want to help.
The most recent offender says they don't have our address on his file. "Here's the number for the marketing department, they handle the mailings".
Call the marketing department, "we can't confirm that, because HIPAA. Maybe our analytics team can scrub it out...".
She took his name, our address, my name and number. Maybe she'll call back with anything resembling a resolution. Maybe I won't hear about it again until the next letter.
